This is a story of the husband who is blinded by love and the wife who stands by her man, teaching him all that she can about life.In this movie the protagonist loves his wife more than anything in this world. In spite of his blindness, he creates a new life for himself with her help. Leaving behind all other things, he sets out on a journey with his wife to conquer every challenge in their lives one at a time. This film unfolds through a series of incidents that engage an audience from beginning till end. Damarukam is an ironic story of a man who wants to end his life but cannot. It is the story of a man who gets hope from an accident. The film has three inter-twined plots - the hero's love life, the hero's professional life and the courage he gets from an accident. All three are found in juxtaposition with each other in exciting scenes until they come together in a crescendo of emotions. The hero's love life is about the beautiful heroine Aditi, who is his ex-girlfriend. A new girl enters his life and the hero falls in love with her. The professional life of the hero is about a kathakali dancer he met while on a tour in Kerala and brought home to Chennai, who has black spots on her face due to skin cancer. This causes him to think that he can end his life and starts making preparations for it. The last plot is that of the hero's marriage and his love for his wife and the daughter he has with her. All three plots come together in a crescendo of empathy towards life and each other. This film is based on an incident that happened in 2004 at Rangaraopet in Andhra Pradesh, where a blind man (Rajendra Babu) had created such an emotional impact on the family members of the deceased, who were brought to the crematorium, that they decided to build a memorial there. The movie is loosely based on this incident. The Music Was Composed By Vidyasagar and Released by Aditya Music.This film has won two National Film Awards and four Nandi Awards, one each for Best Feature Film in Telugu and Best Cinematography, three for Best Actor and one for the Child Artist. It was also nominated for other awards, including Filmfare Awards. Damarukam has been remade into other languages as well:"Damarukam" was released on 28 August 2012, by Dil Raju in about 400 screens worldwide under the Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra banner.
